About
Hi, I'm Saffron...
Avid backpacker, mountain wanderer, waterfall fanatic, Earth enthusiast, leisure writer, etc.
I embarked on my first solo travel when I was nineteen and now I've reached the ripe age of... twenty-one. Perhaps two years doesn't seem like long, and twenty-one is certainly not old but I can honestly say that I have met so many different versions of myself as I've grown with the exposure of the world. So I'm going to write about it.
It began with a one-way plane ticket from my home in Australia and a thirty-five hour journey to the South of France to embark on El Camino Frances. Over a month on foot crossing Northern Spain, I realised my intense love for hiking and appreciation for the simplicity of a life spent outdoors, which lead me back to my roots in Aotearoa New Zealand, birthplace of my dad and an adventurer's paradise. Here, I met the freedom of van life with my 2009 Mazda Bongo, Betsy, all while enduring the joys of toilet scrubbing in the remote lodges of the South Island and getting cozy with the mountains, of course.
In between, my time has been spent with life packed in a 40L on my back, roaming around Southwestern Europe, island hopping across South East Asia and on a speedy road trip through the North East of Argentina.
I've learnt to hike alone in the backcountry, survive the woes of food poisoning (too many times), defeated beg bugs, developed a gluten intolerance, got stitches in Vietnam... and an infection, made friends from around the globe, bedrotted in countless hostel bunks, fell in love (oops) and into a long distance relationship and overcome the worries of any solo female traveller, all while juggling the many pressing questions of uncertainty as my twenties began.
Where is my life heading? I have not a clue. If I figure it out, I'll be sure to write about it. For now, though, I will share my anecdotes, lessons and revelations as I reminisce my steps on this wondrous Earth.
With the opportunities of this youth and freedom, I will make this life grand.
Live well,
Saffron Louise
